Super Bowl XLI

In a semi entertaining but sloppy Super Bowl, Peyton Manning silences all of his critics, forever, with a 29-17 victory of the Bears. Let's breakdown the big game:

Game Positives:

- Joe Addai and Dominick Rhodes. Why does everyone in the media call him Joseph and every Colt player call him Joe? Anyway, Addai and Rhodes ran all over the Bears defense which was just awful to be honest the 2nd half of the season. The Bears defense limped into the playoffs on the power of their home field and it showed yesterday. They were manhandled. If it wasn't raining the Colts probably would've put up a 40 spot on that defense.

- Devin Hester. Memo to Tony Dungy: If you kickoff the ball to start the Super Bowl, don't kick it to this guy.

- Peyton Manning. All of you people that wanted so desperately to anoint him can do so freely now. He got it done. I don't want to hear about how bad his stats were in the playoffs either. It's not fair to Manning. It's never been about numbers for me with Manning. It's about winning. It's about leading your team on that one key drive in a big game. Peyton Manning's done all that now to go along with his record breaking stats. It's over. He's among the elite NOW. There, I said it. As for yesterday, after a very shaky start in which he was visibly nervous, Manning settled down to play a very good game. MVP worthy, no. But I predicted he wouldn't deserve the MVP and still get it.

Game Negatives:

- That Snickers commercial. Ever have what you think might be a good idea, then the first time you use it, it just doesn't work? How in the world could this commercial made it through the conference rooms and trial video productions at the Snickers ad offices?? Any breathing heterosexual male watching this can tell you the commercial isn't going to work. In fact, it may have a negative effect. Awful.

- Bears defense. Wow they're bad. They didn't play well at all in the postseason. I mean at all. How about somebody making a play? I realize Tommie Harris and Mike Brown are their two better defensive players, but I hear a lot about Brian Urlacher and Lance Briggs, well, they were making tackles 10-12 yards down the line. Make a play!

- Rex Grossman. For about a quarter and a half, Rex actually played well. But he basically dumped the ball off most of the time and made some of the worst throws I've ever seen in the second half.

- Lovie Smith. I think when you have a young, unproven QB it's best to take your shots on first and second down and run draws, and mis-direction plays on third down. Or, just pound the ball 45 times on the ground. The Bears did neither. I blame game planning. That's on the head coach.

Overall, this goes down as a middle of the pack Super Bowl. Not a yawner like the 49ers 55-10 drubbing of the Broncos and not exactly Montana to Taylor either.

For all that rain, that field sure held up well. I didn't see any mud, most guys seemed to have good footing. That being said guys fumbled the ball all over the place.

As I was laying in bed with the flu most of the weekend, I was begging for some football by about 2pm on Saturday. I started thinking, it would be a good idea to have the Pro Bowl the day before the Super Bowl. Have it in the same city as the big game, and so what if the players from the Colts or Bears can't play (or whichever team is playing the SB - still give the players like Manning who made the team their bonuses and stuff). Nobody watches the game anyway right now. This way it gives us fans an appetizer to the big game. And 90% of players are in town for the Super Bowl anyway. Just have the game at the Orange Bowl in Miami. Or when the game's in Arizona, have it where the Sun Devils play. There's plenty of decent college football stadiums around (and that's exactly what the stadium in Hawaii is). And if the SB's in a dome, you can just have it in the same dome. It's not like you'd rip up the field. Feel free to start a website promoting me as the next Commish of the NFL.

Dragon's Den

Drexel is struggling. No other way to put it. They just aren't in any type of rhythm. This year the CAA isn't as good as it was last year, but is still solid. Nonetheless, Drexel needs to fair better against the top teams in the CAA (0-4 vs. Hofstra, Va Comm, Old Dom) if they are to be taken seriously. They'll go into the conference tourney as the 4th seed in the CAA. They'll need some serious Madness to get in the Big Dance.

Final Word: So Peyton Manning has exercised his demons. Only can mean one thing: October 28, 2007 Headline: World Series MVP - New York Yankee Alex Rodriguez!!
